Liberal Alliance
Liberal Alliance was founded in May 2007, and is the liberal party of Denmark. For the time being Liberal Alliance is represented in the Danish National Parliament with three representatives.
Ideology
Liberal Alliance's ideology is liberalism, based on values such as individual liberty, personal responsibility and freedom from governmental restraints. The aim of Liberal Alliance's policies is for every individual to have the freedom and the possibilities to seek ones dreams and achieve ones ambitions. Liberal Alliance believes that it is the individual that makes up the society, not the society that makes the individual. In the following our main policy approaches is described.
Individual rights
Liberal Alliance believes each individual is unique. Therefore we believe in a system, which respects the individual and encourages every person to discover the best within themselves with the purpose of developing their full potential. Individuals should be free to make choices for themselves and also to accept responsibility for the consequences of the choices they make. Our support for an individual's right to make choices in life does not mean that we necessarily approve or disapprove of those choices, but it means that we support and recognize the individual's right to be in control of his or her own life.
The role of the state
In many aspects of our lives the choices that we make are being increasingly limited by the actions of especially the State. In Liberal Alliances we believe that the role of the State should be to protect the basic rights of the individuals, such as the property rights, and at the same time guarantee a minimum of social benefits for those people who can not take care of them self, but still wishes to make an effort for a better life.
Liberal Alliance wishes to minimize the role of the state and decentralize decisions about close welfare benefits to the local authority - the best decisions are made close to the citizens. An example is school issues, which should be handled by the local school board. By decentralizing the decision making process it is possible to keep the diversity in our society because of the local influence. Unfortunately we are getting used to the idea that all decisions are to be made from the central administration. No one benefits from politicians attempting to regulate every aspect of our life.
EU and globalization
Liberal Alliance is an international oriented party that focuses on the benefits of a globalized world and the positive effects of open markets and free trade. Therefore Liberal Alliance also wishes to see an effective European Union focused on cross-border issues, working for an increase in free trade. Free trade leads to exchange of goods between countries which creates more welfare for everyone.
A free market
A free and competitive market allocates resources in the most efficient manner. Each person has the right to offer goods and services to others on terms of the free market. As a general principle, the State should not intervene in the markets with subsidies, coursing only unbalance on the markets. The only active role of the state is to ensure market transparency and protect against fraud.
Taxation
Liberal Alliance believes that Denmark needs significant cuts in the income and the business tax. Tax cuts will help generate economic growth and ultimately increase the level of prosperity within the Danish society. Furthermore, a tax relief will create a greater incentive to work, improve the international competitiveness of Danish businesses, and create a greater incentive for people to start their own businesses.
